Team Amity Noida, the Asian finalists from India, did the country proud by winning the prestigious Twentieth Annual International Space Settlement Design Competition, 2015 held from August 2-4, 2015 at NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA.
The team comprised 12 genius namely Dhruv Khanna, Aabhas Vaish, Aman Agarwal, Anuj Harisinghani, Rishab Srivastava, Chittaranjan Prasad, Suchit Jain, Rahul Rajput, Tanay Asija, Anant Chaturvedi, Grishma Purewal from Class XI and Mudit Gupta from Class X along with their advisors Smita Fangaria and Aarti Koul.
The final round of Twentieth Annual International Space Settlement Design Competition 2015 witnessed the participation of 4 Companies with 50 participants each, competing for the title from all over the world. Amity International School was in a company named “Vulture Aviation” and was clubbed with other teams from Latin American, North American and two selected team finalists from UK and USA.
During the Competition, Amity Team designed 2 main settlements and 4 outlying settlements to accommodate a population of 24,000 as well as a transient of 3000 more on Mars using a transparent material ‘Aluminum Oxinitride’. While designing the settlement, the team members worked on all the aspects including Structuring Engineering, Automation Engineering, Operations Engineering, Human Engineering, Marketing and Finance, Schedule and Cost.
International Space Settlement Design Competition is a very prestigious International Competition which aims to impart industrial skills in students. The Competition puts high school students in the shoes of Aerospace Industry Engineers. Student Engineers demonstrate creativity, technical competence, management skills, space environment knowledge, teamwork, and presentation techniques to conquer the problems inherent in designing a Space Settlement (aka Space Colony).
