International Space Settlement Design Competition (Amity International School Noida, India)

Amity International School, Noida, the only school from India, cleared the semi final of Regional Space Settlement Design Competition held at Manesar, India. It will represent Asia and will participate in the World Finals live Competition at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, with real engineers sharing their knowledge and experience in both engineering and management. The competition was held at Manesar near Gurgaon from 29 January, 2015 to 1 February, 2015.

The lofty vision and the progressive philosophy of the Founder President, Dr Ashok K Chauhan made Amity Noida take another leap towards fulfilling his dream of making India, a knowledge Super Power by 2030. The innovative planning and the dynamic guidance of Chairperson, Dr Amita Chauhan, inspire the students and staff to reach for the stars. She believes in developing scientific temperament through logical thinking and enhancing analytical ability in the institutions under her command. The Principal, Mrs. Renu Singh left no stone unturned to help students achieve success in this endeavour. Her indepth knowledge of science and its importance in the fast developing world make her device innovative curriculum techniques.

For over 20 years the ISSDC has been teaching industrial skills to high school students the world over. ARSSDC serves as the Asian Semifinals for the competition. This contest puts high school students in the shoes of aerospace industry engineers designing a city in space that will be a home for over 10,000 people.

This year the request was to design the settlement in the Cycler Orbit around earth & Mars.

Students from Amity, Noida demonstrated creativity, technical competence, management skills, space environment knowledge, teamwork, and presentation techniques to conquer the problems inherent in sitting home and designing a Space Settlement (aka Space Colony) as required by the format of the competition.
